Part of the London King’s Cross redevelopment project, Pancras Square Leisure is located within Camden Council’s new community hub building. Occupying its two lower floors, the leisure centre includes a 25m pool and moveable floor, learner and play pools, fitness suite and two studio spaces, which combine with an access centre and library above, to provide new state-of-the-art public facilities for the local community.
The design focuses on bringing light and views into the centre to enliven each space and connect it to the wider site. Scroll down to take a tour of the fitness suite and for a peek at the pools with Google Virtual Tours.
The building achieved BREEAM Outstanding, a first for a UK leisure centre, and is a featured as a case study on the BREEAM website.
"Following LA architects appointment by the D&B Contractor, LA architects has organised workshops with the D&B Contractor and Camden Councils Project Manager and the Operators Representative. Layouts were produced that respected the Council Brief and reflected the Operators Requirements. Once these layouts were approved further workshops were held to produce Room Data Sheets to detail the environmental requirements and the proposed finishes. Further workshops were held to coordinate the M&E requirements and the Operators specialist requirements in particular the Audio & Visual installation to be installed by the Operators Specialist Contractor. LA arranged visits to suppliers and subcontractors to obtain approval to ensure lead-in times were met. The result of this close cooperation has produced a facility that has met with public acclaim and membership take up that has exceeded expectations. I would welcome the opportunity to work with LA architects again."Don White - Project Manager, Camden Council
