Glass Mill, Lewisham

Located at the heart of a major regeneration scheme in Lewisham, the Glass Mill provides state-of-the-art community sports and leisure facilities, and a focal point for the site’s public realm.

The building was strongly influenced by an extensive community consultation process, which generated a bold and vibrant design reflecting the cultural richness of the local population. The exterior façade is clad in 1400 individual glass panels that were developed in conjunction with local artist Phil Coy.

Since opening, the centre has proved extremely popular, exceeded predicted demand, and was awarded Best Community Scale Built Project in the London Planning Awards.

“LA architects performed design services for this project demonstrating a wealth of experience with strengths in consultation and in particular accessibility. LA were keen to listen and investigate stakeholder requirements and strived to achieve quality in all aspects of the building design. The Council and the users of Glass Mill Leisure Centre are hugely satisfied with the building that is operating above expectation. This is testament to LA architects work and commitment to the project.”
