Rainham Marshes, London
Client: Rainham Development Company
Rainham International was a large scale comprehensive development that was planned on the outskirts of London. It included an Olympic sized stadium, pools complex, ice rinks, international business and exhibition centre, residential development and business park. There was also to be a new marina on the Thames with an ecological park that preserved and then enhanced the wetlands of Rainham Marshes.
The project predates the Lea Valley Park and 2012 Olympic park by twenty years and demonstrates LAs ability to masterplan and then design large scale imaginative projects.
The project failed to receive financial backing due to the economic downturn in 1992 and the failure of the government to provide financial backing. Ten years later and ten miles away the UK government decided to back the Olympic bid in Lea Valley.
