Positioned on South Shield’s waterfront, at the mouth of the River Tyne, Haven Point represents a key element in the town’s regeneration strategy, and much needed community sports and leisure facilities for the area.
Its prominent location and striking design, evoking the local environment, provide a beacon to the redevelopment of the area, whilst extensive reworking of the adjacent landscape reconnects the beach to the town and its neighbouring parks, grounding the building within its site and its wider community.
The popularity of the centre is evident in the it's visitor numbers, which exceed half a million in the first year. The building went on to win the RIBA North East’s Building of the Year, with LA being awarded Architect of the Year.
“Mike and his team have an uncanny sense for sharing the vision we were seeking to achieve, really listened effectively, brought forward creative design ideas for our consideration, and did it all in a timely manner. We have been impressed with their willingness to share and contribute ideas, the depth of industry experience which when combined with their skilled, helpful and friendly approach at all levels makes for an exceptionally strong and rewarding working relationship.”Bryan Atkinson - Corporate Lead Culture and Leisure
